How to manage and support the CPD – logical part

Following our last article about CPD, where we talk about managing and supporting the physical, let’s address these services applied to the logical part of the CPD, which relates to information that is accessed, processed and stored – that is, data, operating systems, management systems, e-mail, databases, files, and documents.

The infrastructure logic is even more complicated because it involves adaptation to the needs of the business. If deployed and maintained properly, the benefits to the company are numerous: greater use of equipment in the DATA CENTER, more performance, availability, and security for the operation and, therefore, best it services delivered to users.

Listed below are some key features of the logical DATACENTER infrastructure:

  1. appropriate operating systems

Some applications exhibit better performance on Windows, others on Linux. Besides these operating systems installed on the servers to meet these requests, you need to have specialized staff in each of them to provide the proper operating system support.

  1. Virtualization of servers and desktops

Server virtualization is a technology capable of transforming a single physical machine on multiple machines virtues, so as to explore more the physical resource capacity of the equipment while reducing costs with the acquisition of new equipment. Already the desktop virtualization focuses on CPD the users ‘ machines and reduces the need for equipment with high processing capacity, storage and memory at the tips – and still brings advantages regarding management of it services, such as systems upgrade, restore of user machines, mobility, among others.

  1. Security of information

delicateOnce the CPD concentrates the company information, that is vital, sensitive and confidential, must be rigorously protected. More than one firewall on CPD, information security must understand a plan according to the specific needs of each business and cover all computational network, access control, security policies, invasive threat protection solutions and evasion.

  1. Backup of information

Following the same line of information security, equally important to ensure the existence of the information, no matter what happens with the physical structure of the company, is to perform backups. In fact, a backup solution goes far beyond “copy”-it adds intelligence through automatic routines, information redundancy in separate locations, data traffic encryption, security for the storage and availability of backups when there is a need to restore information.

  1. Support for services and applications

Every company has one (or several) management systems, email service, file server, among others, and it services more than take care of the machines that process and host these applications, it is necessary to support the operation of these requests through routines that involve monitoring, maintenance, migration, approvals, etc. This support, in turn, demands the use of automation tools and specialized team, able to meet the criticality that these applications have in the business, often responsible for taking thousands of users.

As the infrastructure logic is the CPD’s intelligence, not the mechanical part, today it is possible to have the same capabilities of technology, without the need to have a CPD in the company. That is, the systems are offered and the information consumed by the user, while the physical resources in external environment – concept of cloud computing.
